The Age of Autism: Study sees vaccine risk

WASHINGTON, June 26 (UPI) -- A new, privately funded survey finds vaccinated U.S. children have a significantly higher risk of neurological disorders -- including autism -- than unvaccinated children.
In one striking finding, vaccinated boys 11-17 were more than twice as likely to have autism as their never-vaccinated counterparts.
The telephone survey of parents representing a total of 17,000 children appears to be the first of its kind -- and contrasts starkly with several government-backed studies that have found no risk from vaccines.
"No one has ever compared prevalence rates of these neurological disorders between vaccinated and unvaccinated children," said J.B. Handley, father of a child with autism and co-founder of Generation Rescue, which commissioned the $200,000 survey conducted by SurveyUSA, a respected marketing firm. "The phone survey isn't perfect, but these numbers point to the need for a comprehensive national study to gather this critical information.
"We have heard some speculation that unvaccinated children would be difficult to locate," Handley said. "But we were able to find more than enough in our sample of more than 17,000 children to establish confidence intervals at or above 95 percent for the primary comparisons we made."
Meanwhile, U.S. Rep. Carolyn Maloney, D-N.Y., reintroduced a bill first submitted last year calling for the National Institutes of Health to conduct such a study.
"Generation Rescue's study is impressive and forcefully raises some serious questions about the relationship between vaccines and autism," Maloney said. "What is ultimately needed to resolve this issue one way or the other is a comprehensive national study of vaccinated and unvaccinated children.
"The parents behind Generation Rescue only want information. These parents deserve more than roadblocks, they deserve answers. We can and should move forward in search of those answers."
Both Maloney and Handley said their efforts were sparked by Age of Autism columns that found anecdotal, unscientific evidence of less autism among the Amish, who have a lower vaccination rate. The column also reported on Homefirst Health Services in Chicago, whose director said there is no autism or asthma among several thousand never-vaccinated children who were home-delivered and remain patients of the family practice. The U.S. autism rate is 1 in 150 children, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
A spokesman for the CDC, which recommends the childhood immunization schedule and has conducted studies that found no link to autism, said the agency has not seen the Generation Rescue data.
"We look forward to learning more about the survey," spokesman Curtis Allen said. "It's important to note that self-report surveys on topics like this often have significant limitations, so one must be cautious with respect to interpreting the findings.
"It's also important to note that previous studies involving hundreds of thousands of children have failed to find an association."
Generation Rescue's Handley, however, said those studies never compared vaccinated with unvaccinated American children. He also said his survey took its cue from the CDC's own phone-survey approach to estimating the incidence of such disorders among American children.
"Listening to the CDC talk about the reliability of parent reporting, we thought there's a quick way to get a proxy for whether or not there's any truth to the hypotheses that vaccines and all these neurological disorders are related," Handley said. His organization believes that mercury, including a type used for decades in routine childhood immunizations, is a major factor in the ten-fold increase in reported autism cases over the past 20 years.
Handley said the survey, conducted in nine counties in Oregon and California, asked parents "whether their child had been vaccinated, and whether that child had one or more of the following diagnoses: attention deficit disorder, ADHD, Asperger's syndrome, Pervasive Development Disorder-Not Otherwise Specified, or autism."
Results highlighted by Generation Rescue:
-- "Among more than 9,000 boys age 4-17, vaccinated boys were 2.5 times (155 percent) more likely to have neurological disorders, 224 percent more likely to have attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and 61 percent more likely to have autism."
-- "For older vaccinated boys in the 11-17 age bracket, the results were even more pronounced. Vaccinated boys were 158 percent more likely to have a neurological disorder, 317 percent more likely to have ADHD, and 112 percent more likely to have autism."
Handley said he believes the higher results for the older boys are probably more complete because not every child in the younger age group would have received a formal diagnosis.
Concern that vaccines are linked to the rise of autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders has been largely dismissed by public health officials and mainstream medical groups, especially since a 2004 report by the respected Institute of Medicine found no such evidence -- and suggested research money go to more "promising" areas.
But parents -- some of whom say they watched their children regress into autism immediately following physical reactions to vaccines -- have continued to press the issue. A U.S. vaccine court in Washington is currently hearing argument over whether nearly 5,000 such claims should be paid by a federal vaccine injury compensation fund.
Handley said the fact that his organization could produce such a study on a relative shoestring while the U.S. government has not suggests it is hesitant to confront the possible ramifications.
Two years ago CDC Director Dr. Julie Gerberding told UPI that "such studies could and should be done" but offered several reasons why they might prove difficult, including the variability of autism diagnoses, possible genetic differences in the Amish and the small number of never-vaccinated children in the United States.
"They haven't lifted a penny since then," Handley said.

WASHINGTON, June 4 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Hearings will begin on June 11th at the U.S. Federal Claims Court to determine if autism is linked to vaccines and their components, including the mercury-based preservative thimerosal. As the Autism Omnibus Proceeding approaches, parents of children diagnosed with autism are calling attention to the conflicts of interest they believe continue to threaten the safety of vaccines.
Among the concerns cited by parents are the close ties between pharmaceutical companies and government regulatory agencies. A July, 2003 UPI investigation revealed the following:
- In two cases in the past four years, vaccines endorsed by the
CDC were
pulled off the market after a number of infants and adults appear to
have suffered devastating side effects, and some died. Critics now worry
about a possible link between vaccines and autism, diabetes, asthma and
sudden infant death syndrome, among other ailments.
- Members of the CDC's Vaccine Advisory Committee get money from vaccine
manufacturers. Relationships have included: sharing a vaccine patent;
owning stock in a vaccine company; payments for research; getting money
to monitor manufacturer vaccine tests; and funding academic departments.
- The CDC is in the vaccine business. Under a 1980 law, the CDC currently
has 28 licensing agreements with companies and one university for
vaccines or vaccine-related products. It has eight ongoing projects to
collaborate on new vaccines.
Dr. Paul Offit, MD, former chairman of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, which guides vaccine policy decisions at the CDC, embodies the conflicts of interest concern of parents. Dr. Offit has been a long-time defender of injecting mercury, a known neurotoxin, into infants and pregnant women. He is also co-patent holder of the RotaTeq vaccine with pharmaceutical giant Merck, a funder of his research for over a decade. Offit is speaking against parents today in support of the vaccine program and pharmaceutical companies at a press conference sponsored by Every Child by Two, a group also funded by pharmaceutical companies and supportive of injecting mercury into infants.
"In my opinion, as glaring as Dr. Offit's conflicts are, what's even more disturbing is that such close ties between vaccine policy decision makers and vaccine manufacturers are routine," said parent and National Autism Association board member Scott Bono. "The bottom line has become vaccine profit rather than vaccine safety. Children diagnosed with autism are suffering the consequences of an unprecedented greed, and their parents aren't going away until the public knows the full details of this man-made disaster."

For the last twenty years, the incidents of autism have been rising to astronomical heights. The reasons for this have been debated, argued, protested and denied. Parents of autistic children are confused, left with feelings of guilt, anger and frustration.
The Centers for Disease Control and the FDA say better diagnostics have been the cause for the rise in autism. Parents and other health officials ask, if better diagnostics are the reason, where are all the autistic adults?
Childhood vaccines have been at the heart of this issue since the late 1980s. When pharmaceutical companies began using the mercury-based vaccine preservative, thimerosal, autism suddenly began to shoot up the charts of childhood illnesses. Mercury is one of the deadliest toxins on the planet.
A child from 6 months to age 3 receiving a flu vaccine with thimerosal gets 12.5 micrograms (mcg) of mercury. Yet, according to the Environmental Protection Agency, only someone weighing 275 pounds can process this amount of mercury. Older children receive the adult vaccine with 25 mcg of mercury, an amount that someone weighing 550 pounds can process through the liver. The 25 mcg-flu vaccine is also recommended for pregnant women at all stages of pregnancy.
Mercury easily passes the placental barrier and enters the developing fetus whose tiny brain is just forming.
The CDC has been under fire for refusing to give out testing results on the effects of thimerosal in vaccines. Why? Because there has never been a toxicity test done by the CDC or the FDA.
How do parents of autistic kids fight back?
There is an official federal "vaccine court," where some 4,750 autism-related cases have been pending for years. Claimants say thimerosal contributed to their children's autism. They are seeking compensation from a special vaccine injury fund administered by the federal government.
The long-awaited autism vaccine trial will commence in June in the courtroom of Special Master George Hastings. The plaintiffs and their attorneys have asked for complete transparency in every aspect of the tribunal, including public disclosure of all evidence and unhindered media access to the hearings.
The Bush administration wants to hold the hearings in a sealed courtroom, off limits to the press and public, with stiff sanctions for any outsider who attempts to gain unauthorized access to the secretive proceedings within.
On Nov. 3, the Department of Justice wrote to Hastings saying it "would oppose public access to the courtroom and public broadcast of the trial," because such an arrangement "would pose security and privacy concerns" for those in attendance.
If vaccines are safe, then why all the controversy and secrecy? What if one of every 166 births resulted in blindness or deafness? Is autism any less important because it happens after birth?
Autism is not a result of better diagnostics. It is a medical disaster that needs to be acknowledged and corrected.

Ms McKee asks where all these adults with autism are today. Autism affects 1 in 160 (depending on the sources…it is really about 1 in 80 boys [in some states in 1 in 50 boys – Minnesota]). Many more suffer from ADD, ADHD and dyslexia (again, mostly boys). The CDC now says that 1 in 6 children have some from of neurobehavioral disorder. This isn’t due to better diagnosis (what an insult to teachers and pediatricians) – after all, can you point out the 1 in 160 adults walking around with autism? They are not there, but there are people with Alzheimer’s disease! This is the same subset of the population that now has autism but at the other end of the age spectrum. Had they been born in the 1990’s and jabbed full of the vaccines that contained the mercury preservative Thimerosal they would, in all likelihood, have autism. That is why the government is not trying to find the cause of the epidemic; they know what the cause is…they just don’t want us to know!
There have been many articles written about how the current generation of children in High School cannot do math and science. Girls are now outperforming boys in math and science, and we have to import engineers and scientists in large numbers from other countries to meet the demands of US industry. The girls aren’t performing any better than they used to, but the boys are more sensitive to heavy metal poisoning than girls are (Testosterone increase mercury toxicity) and their brains have been damaged.
Now, to put this in context, Polio only affected 1 in 2700 Americans. Some of us are old enough to remember the outcry about that disease and the mobilization to prevent it. No such mobilization is taking place on behalf of the children with Autism or the adults with Alzheimer’s disease because these diseases are caused by environmental exposure to government sanctioned pollutants. Some heavy metals have a protected status -a mixed agenda of greed, control and the fear of a lot of people who will lose their jobs or worse, but be that as it may, the agenda is not in the public’s interest.
The fossil fuel industry that wants to continue to spew mercury from cola-fire power plants have theri hands in this mess big time.
Treatment for the brain injury caused by heavy metal pollution, what will go down as the scourge of the late 20th and early 21st century, is currently available. This pollution is responsible for the increase rates of asthma, diabetes and a whole host of what are considered unexplainable autoimmune diseases and cancers – so this just isn’t about children with autism – they are the canaries in the coal mine, and we have done nothing as they fall over one after the other. But think on this….. Who is going to foot the bill when one 1 in every 80 boys goes on disability just for autism alone. Where is that money going to come from just as the first waves are now becoming adults?

Barbara McKee correctly points out the tragedy of autism and the suspicious government reactions. A US Congressional committee concluded in 2003 that mercury in vaccines was the likely cause of the autism epidemic. This did not get the press coverage like the Institute of Medicine's report in 2004 when, at the request of the CDC, issued a statement exonerating vaccines from a causal link to autism. Few knew that several of the IOM's elite executive council had ties to the vaccine industry, none closer than Gail Cassel, the VP of Eli Lilly, the drug company liable for $ billions in damage to Americans.
Finally, an added point of hypocrisy. Many are concerned about mercury in the air largely from coal-fired power plants. Let me put this in proper perspective. The air in Illinois amounts to an exposure rate of 0.0035 micrograms of mercury per day and mostly a milder form - elemental mercury. Flu shots today have over 700 times that. Where is the legislation to stop this kind of pollution?

Here's a good article on how the "predator class" uses it's power to abuse the "prey class". Until we can remove the protection racket of the predator class, we will see more examples of this type of behavior. Case in point: a cow recently tested positive for mad cow disease in Alabama. The government's response was to reduce testing of mad cow disease by 90%. This is just one example of how corporations use the government to protect their industry's interests. The pharmaceutical industry is being protected in this manner as well.
Flu Vaccine Facts
• In drinking water, mercury cannot exceed 2 parts per billion. With more than 200 parts per billion of mercury, liquid is considered hazardous waste. A mercury-containing flu shot vial has 50,000 parts per billion of mercury. How can something with 250x the mercury level of hazardous waste be deemed safe?

The answer to Shadowee's question (and Dr Ayoub's 'perspective') is dosage and exposure. You will consume thousands of gallons of water and millions of liters of air in a lifetime, but only a few milliliters of vaccine.
Each year, 36,000 people in the USA die from flu and more than 20,000 children under 5 end up in the hospital.
There is a thimerisol-free flu vaccine for children.

To Owinurname and any others who claim science shows no link between thimerosal and autism, I say SHOW ME and be willing to sign your own name. Show me the rigorous testing done on thimerosal by any government agency to prove it is safe for humans. This cannot be done because the independant clinical testing was never conducted.
If you actually do read ALL the science available you will be hard pressed to make any claim of safety of any amount of mercury in vaccines. So go ahead - bring it on - show me the hard science you have that proves this poison is safe.

Owinurname - I think that we can agree that we need good hard science to prove or disprove vaccine's role in the autism epidemic. If its so clear that vaccines are NOT a factor - why is the Big Pharma funded Bush administration so hell bent on keeping these proceeding sealed? Thimerosal contains mercury, but in such tiny amounts as to not achieve effective dose.
Thimerosal has been removed from infant vaccines in the USA.
There are no easy choices when protecting the health of entire populations.

While I am sure that the study below is not the last word on the controversy involving thimerosol and neuro-developmental disorders, it does represent an advance over the study quoted above: not only it is more recent, the study methodology is essential prospective (as opposed to retrospective) and while biases can be introduced into either method, it is far less likely to occur with prospective studies.
I have included a link to the full text (which free download from the National Library of Medicine's PubMed data base) for those who which to do an indepth review based on something more than the abstract.

Several previous epidemiological studies conducted in the US have associated Thimerosal-containing vaccine (TCV) administration with NDs. MATERIAL/METHODS: An ecological study was undertaken to evaluate NDs reported to the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) from 1991 through 2004 by date of receipt and by date of vaccine administration. The NDs examined included autism, mental retardation, and speech disorders. Statistical trend analysis was employed to evaluate the effects of removal of Thimerosal on the proportion of NDs reported to VAERS. Owinurame, you must have misunderstood me. I was not asking for a CDC funded epidemiological study on vaccinated children, I was asking for actual clinical studies done on a test subject (animal, tissue sample, or infant child for instance) exposed to the amount of mercury in one vaccine, (much less the rigorous schedule our kids had in the nineties) and can definitively show that there were NO harmful effects. Heck, I would even like to see a test on the "trace" amounts of mercury STILL in some infant vaccines (just to debunk another one of your lies) that show 1 microgram is safe if there was one - there is not.
If you are not able to come up with any, I suggest you stop lying to people that it is safe. I also suggest you give your real name, or someone might think you are part of one of the groups being funded by the CDC and the Immunization Action Coalition (and by extension, the drug companies) to go after any writer who dares to tell the truth about thimerosal. I would love to see what other studies you are counting on for proof, but why would I post my e-mail address for you when you are afraid to even give your own name?

well, if the study between children who did get vaccines and those that did not were to be bonafide, the mother must be added to the equation. If those children who did or did not get mercury vaccines had mother's who DID get a flu shot containing mercury, then the study is flawed and therefore discounted. Also, the testing of the mother's mercury levels whether or not she received any kind of shot containing mercury(because of mercury contamined food or living in a highly polluted area) must be mandatory criteria for the study of the children to be a true control group.

After much public controversy surrounding
the mercury content of childhood vaccinations,
Health Advocacy in the Public Interest (HAPI)
raised $500 to have four vaccines tested for
heavy metal content. The vials were sent to
Doctor’s Data, an independent lab which
specializes in heavy metal testing in the USA.
Many manufacturers voluntarily began
producing supposed ‘mercury-free’ vaccines
in 1999. Some product inserts currently claim
that a ‘trace’ amount of mercury still exists in
the final product but that the amount has been
greatly reduced. Others claim to be producing
completely mercury-free products.
During an investigation into the mercury
issue, HAPI learned that Thimerosal, a 50%
mercury compound, is still being used to
produce most vaccines and that the
manufacturers are simply ‘filtering it out’ of
the final product. However, according to Boyd
Haley, PhD, Chemistry Department Chair,
University of Kentucky, mercury binds to the
antigenic protein in the vaccine and cannot be
completely filtered out.
All four vaccine vials tested contained
mercury despite manufacturer claims that two
of the vials were completely mercury-free.
All four vials also contained aluminum, one
nine times more than the other three, which
tremendously enhances the toxicity of mercury,
causing neuronal death in the brain.
The mercury content of routine childhood
vaccinations has been linked to the current
autism epidemic as well as numerous other
neurological disorders affecting children
today. Currently, one in six children are
affected in some way and one in 250 children
are diagnosed as autistic compared to one in
10,000 prior to mercury-containing vaccines.
It is the position of Dr. Haley as well as
HAPI that if mercury can be detected in any
vaccine using standard instrumentation, the
content should be disclosed in the product
insert and manufacturers should not be allowed
to call the product “mercury-free”.
Executive Director of HAPI, Dawn Winkler,
met with FDA officials in Silver Spring,
Maryland on July 27, 2004 to discuss blatant
mislabelling and misrepresentation of
ingredients in vaccinations which are licensed
by the FDA. Clearly, more testing is needed.
The FDA has the ability and authority to take

For the last twenty years, the incidents of autism have been rising to astronomical heights. The reasons for this have been debated, argued, protested and denied. Parents of autistic children are confused, left with feelings of guilt, anger and frustration.
The Centers for Disease Control and the FDA say better diagnostics have been the cause for the rise in autism. Parents and other health officials ask, if better diagnostics are the reason, where are all the autistic adults?
Childhood vaccines have been at the heart of this issue since the late 1980s. When pharmaceutical companies began using the mercury-based vaccine preservative, thimerosal, autism suddenly began to shoot up the charts of childhood illnesses. Mercury is one of the deadliest toxins on the planet.
A child from 6 months to age 3 receiving a flu vaccine with thimerosal gets 12.5 micrograms (mcg) of mercury. Yet, according to the Environmental Protection Agency, only someone weighing 275 pounds can process this amount of mercury. Older children receive the adult vaccine with 25 mcg of mercury, an amount that someone weighing 550 pounds can process through the liver. The 25 mcg-flu vaccine is also recommended for pregnant women at all stages of pregnancy.
Mercury easily passes the placental barrier and enters the developing fetus whose tiny brain is just forming.
The CDC has been under fire for refusing to give out testing results on the effects of thimerosal in vaccines. Why? Because there has never been a toxicity test done by the CDC or the FDA.
How do parents of autistic kids fight back?
There is an official federal "vaccine court," where some 4,750 autism-related cases have been pending for years. Claimants say thimerosal contributed to their children's autism. They are seeking compensation from a special vaccine injury fund administered by the federal government.
The long-awaited autism vaccine trial will commence in June in the courtroom of Special Master George Hastings. The plaintiffs and their attorneys have asked for complete transparency in every aspect of the tribunal, including public disclosure of all evidence and unhindered media access to the hearings.
The Bush administration wants to hold the hearings in a sealed courtroom, off limits to the press and public, with stiff sanctions for any outsider who attempts to gain unauthorized access to the secretive proceedings within.
On Nov. 3, the Department of Justice wrote to Hastings saying it "would oppose public access to the courtroom and public broadcast of the trial," because such an arrangement "would pose security and privacy concerns" for those in attendance.
If vaccines are safe, then why all the controversy and secrecy? What if one of every 166 births resulted in blindness or deafness? Is autism any less important because it happens after birth?
Autism is not a result of better diagnostics. It is a medical disaster that needs to be acknowledged and corrected.

Ms McKee asks where all these adults with autism are today. Autism affects 1 in 160 (depending on the sources…it is really about 1 in 80 boys [in some states in 1 in 50 boys – Minnesota]). Many more suffer from ADD, ADHD and dyslexia (again, mostly boys). The CDC now says that 1 in 6 children have some from of neurobehavioral disorder. This isn’t due to better diagnosis (what an insult to teachers and pediatricians) – after all, can you point out the 1 in 160 adults walking around with autism? They are not there, but there are people with Alzheimer’s disease! This is the same subset of the population that now has autism but at the other end of the age spectrum. Had they been born in the 1990’s and jabbed full of the vaccines that contained the mercury preservative Thimerosal they would, in all likelihood, have autism. That is why the government is not trying to find the cause of the epidemic; they know what the cause is…they just don’t want us to know!
There have been many articles written about how the current generation of children in High School cannot do math and science. Girls are now outperforming boys in math and science, and we have to import engineers and scientists in large numbers from other countries to meet the demands of US industry. The girls aren’t performing any better than they used to, but the boys are more sensitive to heavy metal poisoning than girls are (Testosterone increase mercury toxicity) and their brains have been damaged.
Now, to put this in context, Polio only affected 1 in 2700 Americans. Some of us are old enough to remember the outcry about that disease and the mobilization to prevent it. No such mobilization is taking place on behalf of the children with Autism or the adults with Alzheimer’s disease because these diseases are caused by environmental exposure to government sanctioned pollutants. Some heavy metals have a protected status -a mixed agenda of greed, control and the fear of a lot of people who will lose their jobs or worse, but be that as it may, the agenda is not in the public’s interest.
The fossil fuel industry that wants to continue to spew mercury from cola-fire power plants have theri hands in this mess big time.
Treatment for the brain injury caused by heavy metal pollution, what will go down as the scourge of the late 20th and early 21st century, is currently available. This pollution is responsible for the increase rates of asthma, diabetes and a whole host of what are considered unexplainable autoimmune diseases and cancers – so this just isn’t about children with autism – they are the canaries in the coal mine, and we have done nothing as they fall over one after the other. But think on this….. Who is going to foot the bill when one 1 in every 80 boys goes on disability just for autism alone. Where is that money going to come from just as the first waves are now becoming adults?

Barbara McKee correctly points out the tragedy of autism and the suspicious government reactions. A US Congressional committee concluded in 2003 that mercury in vaccines was the likely cause of the autism epidemic. This did not get the press coverage like the Institute of Medicine's report in 2004 when, at the request of the CDC, issued a statement exonerating vaccines from a causal link to autism. Few knew that several of the IOM's elite executive council had ties to the vaccine industry, none closer than Gail Cassel, the VP of Eli Lilly, the drug company liable for $ billions in damage to Americans.
Finally, an added point of hypocrisy. Many are concerned about mercury in the air largely from coal-fired power plants. Let me put this in proper perspective. The air in Illinois amounts to an exposure rate of 0.0035 micrograms of mercury per day and mostly a milder form - elemental mercury. Flu shots today have over 700 times that. Where is the legislation to stop this kind of pollution?

Here's a good article on how the "predator class" uses it's power to abuse the "prey class". Until we can remove the protection racket of the predator class, we will see more examples of this type of behavior. Case in point: a cow recently tested positive for mad cow disease in Alabama. The government's response was to reduce testing of mad cow disease by 90%. This is just one example of how corporations use the government to protect their industry's interests. The pharmaceutical industry is being protected in this manner as well.

• In drinking water, mercury cannot exceed 2 parts per billion. With more than 200 parts per billion of mercury, liquid is considered hazardous waste. A mercury-containing flu shot vial has 50,000 parts per billion of mercury. How can something with 250x the mercury level of hazardous waste be deemed safe?

The answer to Shadowee's question (and Dr Ayoub's 'perspective') is dosage and exposure. You will consume thousands of gallons of water and millions of liters of air in a lifetime, but only a few milliliters of vaccine.
Each year, 36,000 people in the USA die from flu and more than 20,000 children under 5 end up in the hospital.
There is a thimerisol-free flu vaccine for children.

To Owinurname and any others who claim science shows no link between thimerosal and autism, I say SHOW ME and be willing to sign your own name. Show me the rigorous testing done on thimerosal by any government agency to prove it is safe for humans. This cannot be done because the independant clinical testing was never conducted.
If you actually do read ALL the science available you will be hard pressed to make any claim of safety of any amount of mercury in vaccines. So go ahead - bring it on - show me the hard science you have that proves this poison is safe.

Owinurame, you must have misunderstood me. I was not asking for a CDC funded epidemiological study on vaccinated children, I was asking for actual clinical studies done on a test subject (animal, tissue sample, or infant child for instance) exposed to the amount of mercury in one vaccine, (much less the rigorous schedule our kids had in the nineties) and can definitively show that there were NO harmful effects. Heck, I would even like to see a test on the "trace" amounts of mercury STILL in some infant vaccines (just to debunk another one of your lies) that show 1 microgram is safe if there was one - there is not.
If you are not able to come up with any, I suggest you stop lying to people that it is safe. I also suggest you give your real name, or someone might think you are part of one of the groups being funded by the CDC and the Immunization Action Coalition (and by extension, the drug companies) to go after any writer who dares to tell the truth about thimerosal. I would love to see what other studies you are counting on for proof, but why would I post my e-mail address for you when you are afraid to even give your own name?

Re: the abstract of the study I posted - So the CDC has been conspiring in Denmark for the last 30+ years? Don't you think that is a bit of a stretch?
Which infant vaccine currently has thimerosal?
Why in God's name would the American Academy of Pediatrics want to harm children?
Are you interested in science finding other possible causes of autism and developing true preventive interventions or do you just want to stay mad and toss blame about irresponsibly?

Truly, that mercury in vaccines causes autism there is NO doubt, and that plus other sources of mercury, esp dental fillings, causes MS and a multitude of other disorders, including almost all "mental" disorders - the gov and med industry know these things. well, if the study between children who did get vaccines and those that did not were to be bonafide, the mother must be added to the equation. If those children who did or did not get mercury vaccines had mother's who DID get a flu shot containing mercury, then the study is flawed and therefore discounted. Also, the testing of the mother's mercury levels whether or not she received any kind of shot containing mercury(because of mercury contamined food or living in a highly polluted area) must be mandatory criteria for the study of the children to be a true control group.

After much public controversy surrounding
the mercury content of childhood vaccinations,
Health Advocacy in the Public Interest (HAPI)
raised $500 to have four vaccines tested for
heavy metal content. The vials were sent to
Doctor’s Data, an independent lab which
specializes in heavy metal testing in the USA.
Many manufacturers voluntarily began
producing supposed ‘mercury-free’ vaccines
in 1999. Some product inserts currently claim
that a ‘trace’ amount of mercury still exists in
the final product but that the amount has been
greatly reduced. Others claim to be producing
completely mercury-free products.
During an investigation into the mercury
issue, HAPI learned that Thimerosal, a 50%
mercury compound, is still being used to
produce most vaccines and that the
manufacturers are simply ‘filtering it out’ of
the final product. However, according to Boyd
Haley, PhD, Chemistry Department Chair,
University of Kentucky, mercury binds to the
antigenic protein in the vaccine and cannot be
completely filtered out.
All four vaccine vials tested contained
mercury despite manufacturer claims that two
of the vials were completely mercury-free.
All four vials also contained aluminum, one
nine times more than the other three, which
tremendously enhances the toxicity of mercury,
causing neuronal death in the brain.
The mercury content of routine childhood
vaccinations has been linked to the current
autism epidemic as well as numerous other
neurological disorders affecting children
today. Currently, one in six children are
affected in some way and one in 250 children
are diagnosed as autistic compared to one in
10,000 prior to mercury-containing vaccines.
It is the position of Dr. Haley as well as
HAPI that if mercury can be detected in any
vaccine using standard instrumentation, the
content should be disclosed in the product
insert and manufacturers should not be allowed
to call the product “mercury-free”.
Executive Director of HAPI, Dawn Winkler,
met with FDA officials in Silver Spring,
Maryland on July 27, 2004 to discuss blatant
mislabelling and misrepresentation of
ingredients in vaccinations which are licensed
by the FDA. Clearly, more testing is needed.
The FDA has the ability and authority to take

this task sadly appears to be up to the public.
HAPI will be attempting to raise more funds
