This is the bill for an autism study
This is a study to compare vaccinated and unvaccinated kids and the rise of autism. This is important and long overdue.
Vaccines are linked to Autism
This is an amazing study.
The Age of Autism: Study sees vaccine risk
By DAN OLMSTED
WASHINGTON, June 26 (UPI) -- A new, privately funded survey finds vaccinated U.S. children have a significantly higher risk of neurological disorders -- including autism -- than unvaccinated children.
In one striking finding, vaccinated boys 11-17 were more than twice as likely to have autism as their never-vaccinated counterparts.
The telephone survey of parents representing a total of 17,000 children appears to be the first of its kind -- and contrasts starkly with several government-backed studies that have found no risk from vaccines.
"No one has ever compared prevalence rates of these neurological disorders between vaccinated and unvaccinated children," said J.B. Handley, father of a child with autism and co-founder of Generation Rescue, which commissioned the $200,000 survey conducted by SurveyUSA, a respected marketing firm. "The phone survey isn't perfect, but these numbers point to the need for a comprehensive national study to gather this critical information.
"We have heard some speculation that unvaccinated children would be difficult to locate," Handley said. "But we were able to find more than enough in our sample of more than 17,000 children to establish confidence intervals at or above 95 percent for the primary comparisons we made."
Meanwhile, U.S. Rep. Carolyn Maloney, D-N.Y., reintroduced a bill first submitted last year calling for the National Institutes of Health to conduct such a study.
"Generation Rescue's study is impressive and forcefully raises some serious questions about the relationship between vaccines and autism," Maloney said. "What is ultimately needed to resolve this issue one way or the other is a comprehensive national study of vaccinated and unvaccinated children.
"The parents behind Generation Rescue only want information. These parents deserve more than roadblocks, they deserve answers. We can and should move forward in search of those answers."
Both Maloney and Handley said their efforts were sparked by Age of Autism columns that found anecdotal, unscientific evidence of less autism among the Amish, who have a lower vaccination rate. The column also reported on Homefirst Health Services in Chicago, whose director said there is no autism or asthma among several thousand never-vaccinated children who were home-delivered and remain patients of the family practice. The U.S. autism rate is 1 in 150 children, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
A spokesman for the CDC, which recommends the childhood immunization schedule and has conducted studies that found no link to autism, said the agency has not seen the Generation Rescue data.
"We look forward to learning more about the survey," spokesman Curtis Allen said. "It's important to note that self-report surveys on topics like this often have significant limitations, so one must be cautious with respect to interpreting the findings.
"It's also important to note that previous studies involving hundreds of thousands of children have failed to find an association."
Generation Rescue's Handley, however, said those studies never compared vaccinated with unvaccinated American children. He also said his survey took its cue from the CDC's own phone-survey approach to estimating the incidence of such disorders among American children.
"Listening to the CDC talk about the reliability of parent reporting, we thought there's a quick way to get a proxy for whether or not there's any truth to the hypotheses that vaccines and all these neurological disorders are related," Handley said. His organization believes that mercury, including a type used for decades in routine childhood immunizations, is a major factor in the ten-fold increase in reported autism cases over the past 20 years.
Handley said the survey, conducted in nine counties in Oregon and California, asked parents "whether their child had been vaccinated, and whether that child had one or more of the following diagnoses: attention deficit disorder, ADHD, Asperger's syndrome, Pervasive Development Disorder-Not Otherwise Specified, or autism."
Results highlighted by Generation Rescue:
-- "Among more than 9,000 boys age 4-17, vaccinated boys were 2.5 times (155 percent) more likely to have neurological disorders, 224 percent more likely to have attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and 61 percent more likely to have autism."
-- "For older vaccinated boys in the 11-17 age bracket, the results were even more pronounced. Vaccinated boys were 158 percent more likely to have a neurological disorder, 317 percent more likely to have ADHD, and 112 percent more likely to have autism."
Handley said he believes the higher results for the older boys are probably more complete because not every child in the younger age group would have received a formal diagnosis.
Concern that vaccines are linked to the rise of autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders has been largely dismissed by public health officials and mainstream medical groups, especially since a 2004 report by the respected Institute of Medicine found no such evidence -- and suggested research money go to more "promising" areas.
But parents -- some of whom say they watched their children regress into autism immediately following physical reactions to vaccines -- have continued to press the issue. A U.S. vaccine court in Washington is currently hearing argument over whether nearly 5,000 such claims should be paid by a federal vaccine injury compensation fund.
Handley said the fact that his organization could produce such a study on a relative shoestring while the U.S. government has not suggests it is hesitant to confront the possible ramifications.
Two years ago CDC Director Dr. Julie Gerberding told UPI that "such studies could and should be done" but offered several reasons why they might prove difficult, including the variability of autism diagnoses, possible genetic differences in the Amish and the small number of never-vaccinated children in the United States.
"They haven't lifted a penny since then," Handley said.
Full results of the study are at generationrescue.org.

The adverse events (side effects) of ADD and ADHD drugs
FDA To Finally Study Possible Increased Heart Risks Caused By Attention Deficit Medications
POSTED: Tuesday, September 18, 2007

The Safety Profile Of Adderall, Concerta, Ritalin, Dexedrine And All Other ADHD / ADD Drugs Will Be Reviewed
(Posted by Tom Lamb at DrugInjuryWatch.com)
In a September 17, 2007 FDA News article titled "AHRQ and FDA to Collaborate in Largest Study Ever of Possible Heart Risks With ADHD Medications" we learned that the safety of Adderall, Concerta, Ritalin, and Dexedrine -- as well as all other attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and attention deficit disorder (ADD) drugs -- will be finally be reviewed reviewed.
In more detail, the FDA will collaborate with the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) to examine clinical data regarding 500,000 children and adults who have used ADHD / ADD drugs in the past to determine these drugs cause an increased risk of heart attacks, strokes, or other serious cardiovascular problems. The study is expected to take about two years to complete.
As stated in the September 17 FDA News item:
"Case reports have described adverse cardiovascular events in adult and pediatric patients with certain underlying risk factors who receive drug treatment for ADHD, but it is unknown whether or not these events are causally related to treatment," said Gerald Dal Pan, M.D., director of FDA's Office of Surveillance and Epidemiology. "The goal of this study is to develop better information on this question."
We get the impressions of Steven Nissen, a prominent cardiologist who has been involved previously with the ADHD / ADD safety debate about this new FDA study announcement from the September 17, 2007 post "Feds Studying Risks of ADHD Drugs" by Jacob Goldstein at The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) Health Blog:
... told the Health Blog that the study could be “potentially very helpful,” because it will look at seven years’ worth of data, while earlier studies have looked at shorter periods of time....
Nissen... pointed out both that ADD and ADHD drugs tend to raise blood pressure (which raises cardiovascular risks) and that 10% of those treated for the disorders are over 55 years old — an age group where the risk of heart attack and stroke tends to be higher to begin with.
“We really don’t know what the long-term impact of the drugs is going to be on cardiovascular health,” said Nissen, who is not involved in the federal project. “This would obviously be unique data and potentially very helpful because it’s long-term.”
In August 2006 the FDA approved label changes they had requested from the drug companies that make ADHD / ADD medications -- such as Novartis AG's Ritalin and Shire Plc's Adderall -- to add information about the emerging heart-related issues. Later, in February 2007, the FDA asked those same drug companies to develop patient guides that explained the possible cardiovascular risks associated with ADHD / ADD drugs.
We will monitor and report the results of this seemingly long overdue ADHD / ADD drug safety study by the FDA and AHRQ.

Does your anti persperant cause cancer?
Aluminum in deodorant can cause cancer. They do make baking soda based and natural anti persprants if you look at a health food store. Aluminum is in there because it prevents sweating, but also prevents the toxins from building up in your body. So God made us sweat for a reason.
Here's the article.

More polls » A link has been found between aluminium in deodorants and cancer, according to British scientists.
Tests found that women who used deodorants had deposits of aluminium in their outer breasts. The samples were taken from women who had undergone a mastectomy for breast cancer.
Aluminium is not normally found in the human body and scientists are reasonably convinced the presence of the metal means it is being absorbed from anti-perspirant sprays or roll ons. Most deodorants contain aluminium salts, because the metal is effective at stopping skin sweating.
Dr Chris Exley, from Keele University, who carried out the tests, has already raised concern about the aluminium content of sun creams, fearing it could put users at increased risk of developing skin cancer and Alzheimer's.
His small study involved measuring how much metal was found in breast tissue taken from 17 breast cancer patients who had mastectomies at Wythenshaw Hospital, Manchester.
He found that the aluminium content of breast tissue was significantly higher in the outer breast.
Dr Exley's study received funding from Genesis, a UK charity dedicated to preventing breast cancer. A report into his findings is to be published in the November issue of the Journal of Inorganic Biochemistry.
Dr Exley said: "We found there was a wide variation in concentrations of aluminium. Some patients had low concentrations while others had quite high concentrations.
"What we found among all the women is that they all had higher concentrations in the breast tissue closest to the underarm compared to more central tissue, for example below the nipple.
"We don't know that aluminium originated from antiperspirant but one can put two and two together and make a guess on that. The next work will be to see if the aluminium is coming from antiperspirant or elsewhere. We are going to do what we can to follow up this study with future research. Funding is the main barrier to that."
Dr Exley added: "Aluminium is known to cause cancer in animal models. We need to make sure aluminium in antiperspirants isn't contributing to breast cancer."
Dr Exley said manufacturers used aluminium in deodorants because it was very effective in preventing sweating.
He said: "There are some non-aluminium- based antiperspirants but they don't work as well. Myth and legend tells us aluminium is safe but reality shows us not that it isn't safe but that we don't know. Not knowing is not a reason for assuming safety."
However, Antonia Dean, a Clinical Nurse Specialist at Breast Cancer Care said: "This study found that 17 women with breast cancer all had aluminium present in the under-arm area of the breast.
"However, it has not established where the aluminium came from, whether it may have contributed to the development of the disease or whether similar levels could be found in women who do not have breast cancer.
"Further, large-scale studies are needed on this issue to enable women to make an informed choice about aluminium containing products. There is insufficient evidence to establish any kind of link between aluminium in deodorants and breast cancer on the basis of this research alone."
And Dr Christopher Flower, director-general of the Cosmetic, Toiletry & Perfumery Association, said: "I would say that this small study does not present any evidence at all of a link between breast cancer and the use of antiperspirants containing aluminium.
"We do not believe that aluminium is absorbed into the body from the use of antiperspirants."

Biomedical treatment for autism
This is an article in A Hawaiian newscast about biomedical treatment for autism. The reason most people aren't doing this is that it's not covered by insurance. People do simple things and what they can afford. Try gluten free casein free diet. The Jenny McCarthy Holly Peete was wonderful on Oprah. I'll post it soon.
By Gina Mangieri
Many parents of children suffering from autism are turning to alternatives outside of western medicine.
There is a national movement called T.A.C.A. also known as talk about curing autism. It's focus is to find help for youngsters.
There are high-profile celebrities involved in this fight. Actresses Jenny McCarthy and Holly Robinson Peete have sons who are diagnosed with autism and they shared their stories on Oprah Tuesday.
They and many parents are now taking a "bio-medical" approach to try to better the lives of their autistic children. Children like Kainoa Chorman of Hawaii, who is about to turn five. His parents have changed his diet, done hyperbaric chamber treatment, and other non traditional methods.
"Every time we chelate him, which means we are pulling the metals out of his body, mercury and led seem to be his biggest problems. And every time we chelate him, which now we chelate him every weekend. He just makes more improvements by the day," said Kainoa’s mother, Tina Chorman.
"On our third wave....He, I got him up, I stand him up. And he actually stands up and makes eye contact with me and he was like daddy, daddy surfing. And it was like the best moment of my life," said Tommy Chorman, his father.
"Bio-medical" treatments like the hyperbaric chamber sessions are not cheap. Tina chorman believes the family has spent 700 dollars a month on medications, foods, and lab time for Kainoa.
The Chorman's are hoping more parents with autistic children give "Bio-Medicine" a try.

Interview with Jenny McCarthy
By Patricia Crosby
First Coast News
JACKSONVILLE,FL -- Jenny McCarthy is used to being in the spotlight for her acting and modeling career, even her relationship with Jim Carrey.
But now she's getting a lot of attention for a more private side of her life, her struggles to help her son Evan recover from autism.
Jenny is releasing her new book today called "Louder than Words." It's her fourth book and what she believes is her most important one.
"This book is everything to me. It's about faith, it's about loving your child no matter what. It's about acceptance," said McCarthy.
I caught up with McCarthy at the HEAL Gala last June.
She was promoting her book, saying it would shake things up.
But, she didn't want to go into much detail until her book was actually released.
This week, she's on a media tour.
On the 18th, she'll be on Oprah; 20/20 the 21st; Good Morning America the 24th; and Larry King the 26th.
During my interview, she shared with me some of the struggles she's faced in helping her son Evan.
"I got the 'I'm sorry you've got autism' shove out the door. You'd think, here I am in L.A. and people would be knocking on my door offering to help. And, no...nothing. I had to dig and beg, just like everyone else," said McCarthy.
And, it was this journey, that lead her to Dr. Jerry Kartzinel of Pediatric Partners of Ponte Vedra.
McCarthy says he's been instrumental in helping Evan, who can now express himself and hold full conversations.
"When my son was diagnosed back in 2002 with autism, I had this vision in my head of him playing with his friends at a birthday party and on May 18th, that came true. And, he's doing really great," said McCarthy.
When it comes to hopes and dreams for Evan, McCarthy says "My dream is for me to watch him marry his bride someday."

Also, the new dates for next HEAL Gala and golf tournament at the PGA Tour's TPC Sawgrass have been set for June 26th & 27th, 2008.
The first one was the most successful charity fundraiser ever on the First Coast, raising almost $400,000.

For more information on Jenny's new book and on the local charity HEAL (Healing Every Autistic Life), click here..
Also, the new dates for next HEAL Gala and golf tournament at the PGA Tour's TPC Sawgrass have been set for June 26th & 27th, 2008.
The first one was the most successful charity fundraiser ever on the First Coast, raising almost $400,000.

Finding Snacks for Kids With Allergies
Thursday September 13, 12:15 am ET
More than 12 million Americans are allergic to certain kinds of foods, like peanuts and wheat, according to the nonprofit Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network. Out of that population, 2.2 million are school-age children -- and one in 17 children kids under age 3 has food allergies. Not surprisingly, a growing number of companies have sprouted up to help, offering everything from egg-free waffles to wheat-free pasta. While parents can increasingly find such offerings at gourmet grocery stores like Whole Foods, they can find an even wider-range of products online.
We ordered from Cherrybrook Kitchen, Divvies, Ener-G, Gak's Snacks and Allergy Grocer. For all but one company, we ordered several different items to see if they were tasty enough to tempt our somewhat finicky toddler, who is allergic to eggs and peanuts. Overall, the extra effort and, in some cases, the higher price tag paid off as most were devoured by our toddler. In addition, we received peace of mind, since many products say they both don't include the offending substances, and also aren't processed on machines that could come into contact with the allergens.
Based in Massachusetts, Cherrybrook Kitchen was launched in 2005 by Patsy Rosenberg, after discovering she could no longer eat dairy, eggs, and tree nuts. Unwilling to give up baking, Patsy developed recipes so she could have her cake and not be allergic to it too. As a result, the company sells mixes for baked goods like brownies and cakes that are dairy-free, nut-free, egg-free, wheat-free and gluten-free. Since we were first-time buyers, we opted for the $29.74 original variety pack, but we weren't sure what we were getting. An ingredients list said the pack included six mix boxes for chocolate cake, yellow cake, chocolate frosting, vanilla frosting, chocolate-chip cookies and sugar cookies. Meanwhile, the product description listed mixes for fudge brownies, pancakes, chocolate-chip cookies, sugar cookies and yellow cake. Despite the confusion, the mixes that arrived simply needed water/soy milk and margarine/butter to make yummy cakes and cookies.
A favorite of celebrities like Rachael Ray, Divvies specializes in premade sweets like cookies, cupcakes and candy. We immediately decided on cookies and cupcakes since we've had to leave many bakeries empty-handed since our daughter's diagnosis. We easily ordered a dozen oatmeal raisin cookies for $10, a dozen chocolate-chip cookies for $10, and a dozen vanilla cupcakes with chocolate frosting for $24. But after filling out the requisite billing and shipping information, we were worried that our order wouldn't arrive on time since we were ordering on a holiday weekend. A quick call to customer service -- surprisingly open during the holiday -- assured us that the order would be sent out by UPS within a day and arrive the next day. The cookies, which actually arrived a day earlier than promised, were, while more crumbly than regular ones, delicious. The cupcakes, however, were disappointingly dry and tasteless.
Gak's Snacks, started in 2005 by psychologist Jill Robbins after her youngest son was diagnosed with food allergies, also specializes in baked sweets. Customers can choose from premade cookies and coffee cakes or baking ingredients like organic tapioca starch and organic barley flour. While cookies like brownie chip and chocolate chip were tempting, we decided to try the $27.95 organic apple coffee cake after reading the breathless description -- "this award-winning organic apple coffee cake is so good, no one will believe what's not in it." To ensure freshness, the coffee cake is shipped frozen in a cooler (for an additional $6.50) and delivered within two days by FedEx ($10.90). While it was the most expensive coffee cake we've ever had, it did live up to its advertisement and was moist and scrumptious. We just wished we hadn't received a cake labeled best eaten by a date that was one day BEFORE we ordered it. Owner Jill Robbins said our cake must have been misdated and that all cakes are good for up to three months.
Since 1962, Ener-G has been making food for people faced with diet restrictions. The Seattle-based company promises not only mixes and ready-made foods that are free of well-known allergens like gluten and wheat but also of less well-known ones like corn. The food also happens to be kosher. Ordering was a breeze as the Web site was easy to use and prominently displayed what each product was made of and what allergens it was free of. But be prepared to set some time aside for ordering as the selection is quite large. Not only were there cookies and cakes and snacks to choose from but also pasta, flour mixes, and loafs. Our toddler couldn't get enough of the soft ginger snaps ($5.49) and the plain Cheecha Krackles ($4.19), pretzel-like snacks made from potato granules and starch. But the cinnamon rolls ($9.39) were pretty unsavory. There was also a hitch: our package was delivered by Fed-Ex a day later than requested. After sending an e-mail to customer service about the late arrival, we received a generous $20.60 reimbursement.
Unlike the other four Web sites, Allergy Grocer sells more than just its own brand of Miss Roben's mixes. It carries everything from Just Veggies' snacks to body lotion by Gluten-free Savonniere. Given the huge selection, shopping by categories like breakfast and snacks can be overwhelming. Thankfully, the site has the best search function we've seen; it allows customers to search by a certain category, the allergen you're trying to avoid, and if the product is kid-friendly, a top seller or new item. The hunt for a snack bar that was peanut-and-egg-free took only seconds. Completing the purchase of Enjoy Life Foods' very berry snack bar for $3.36, Natural Dessert's strawberry-flavored Jel Mix for $2.29, and Enjoy Life Food's soft-baked lemon cookies for $4.32 was just as quick: on one Web page, we filled out information on shipping, billing, and when we would like the package to arrive. The food arrived on time and all but the lemon cookies was worth reordering.

Popcorn Lung
Popcorn lung patient inhaled fumes daily
By P. SOLOMON BANDA, Associated Press Writer 34 minutes ago
CENTENNIAL, Colo. - Wayne Watson loved microwave popcorn so much he would eat at least two bags each night, breathing in the steam from the just-opened package, until doctors told him it may have made him sick.

Watson, whose case of "popcorn lung" is the sole reported case of the disease in a non-factory worker, said he is convinced his heavy consumption of popcorn caused his health problems.
In an interview with The Associated Press on Wednesday, the 53-year-old furniture salesman had a message to convey: "America: Read the labels, and just be careful about what we put into our bodies and always practice moderation," Watson said. "Don't go crazy."
Popcorn flavoring contains the chemical diacetyl, which has been linked to lung damage in factory workers testing hundreds of bags of microwave popcorn per day and inhaling its fumes. The chemical is a naturally occurring compound that gives butter its flavor and is also found in cheese and even wine, according to the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health.
It's been approved by the Food and Drug Administration as a flavor ingredient, but hundreds of workers have sued flavoring makers in recent years for lung damage.
There are no warnings from federal regulators, nor is there medical advice on how consumers should treat news of the rare, life-threatening disease, bronchiolitis obliterans, also known as popcorn lung.
Dr. Cecile Rose, a lung specialist at the National Jewish Medical and Research Center in Denver who diagnosed Watson's case in February, told the AP that no definite link has been established between Watson's heavy popcorn consumption and his lung disease, but that "the possibility raises public health concerns."
Doctors tested Watson's home for levels of diacetyl fumes and found that while popcorn was microwaved in the kitchen, peak levels of the fumes were similar to those measured in factories, Rose said.
While she still lets her kids microwave popcorn at home, Rose said she is concerned that the high levels of fumes measured at Watson's home could be present anytime consumers microwave popcorn, and that these high levels — and not just the cumulative effect of exposures in the factory — could be a factor in causing the disease.
"We don't know yet. We think it's a possibility," said Rose, who recommended the popcorn bags be tested further.
On Wednesday, the nation's largest microwave popcorn maker, ConAgra, said it would stop using diacetyl within a year out of concern for its workers — not because of risks to consumers. ConAgra makes Act II and Orville Redenbacher brands.
The Flavor and Extract Manufacturers Association said that Rose's finding does not suggest a risk from eating microwave popcorn.
Watson said he still craves popcorn but has taken his doctors' advice and snacks now on fruits and vegetables. He said his breathing has improved and he's lost 35 pounds. He no longer uses an inhaler or takes steroids.

Peter Jennings and food subsidies
This is a series of videos about how high fructose corn syrup is making the world obese. The farm subsidy program is geared toward the processed food industry. Over 90 percent of the food you would buy is from the processed food industry. This is the highest profit margin. It's also making us fat.
They seem to say that it's our fault for buying it. Okay, let's not buy any more high fructose corn syrup. The Real Food Diet.

Business group wants veto of autism-insurance bill
Association says employers should have the option of whether to insure costly intervention

AUSTIN — Parents of children with autism cheered when Texas lawmakers revived a dead bill they say will give families hope, save some from bankruptcy and reduce long-term costs for taxpayers.
But the Texas Association of Business wants Gov. Rick Perry to veto House Bill 1919 because of an amendment that changes the definition of autism from a mental illness to a neurobiological illness and requires insurance companies to cover treatment for 3- to 5-year-olds with the disease.
The autism-insurance measure passed the Senate but languished in the House until lawmakers approved it as an amendment to insurance-related legislation just hours before the legislative session ended May 28.
"Somebody finally heard us," Cynthia Singleton of Houston said after legislators approved the amendment. "Parents have been struggling for years to be heard and, I think, somebody finally cared enough to help make it happen."
Financing treatment
Singleton said she and her husband have spent more than $100,000 on treatment for their 8-year-old son with autism. They financed the treatment by selling a four-bedroom home in West Houston and renting a three-bedroom apartment for more than two years.
Most families can't afford the expensive, intensive intervention that offers some level of success if started early.
"What we know about brain development is that when children are very young, their brains are very plastic. You can shape and change how the brain functions," said Theresa Diaz, president of the Autism Society of Greater San Antonio. "At its heart, autism (occurs when) the brain processes information completely differently from a typically developing brain."
She has a 5-year-old son with autism.
Intensive and early intervention helps the brain to rewire itself to the point that "children will still have autism, but they most likely will be able to be much more functional," Diaz said.
But the costs are staggering without insurance coverage.
"We have families all over town who are declaring bankruptcy left, right and center because they are just trying to figure out how to get their children to function," Diaz said.
Governor mulls veto
Perry spokesman Robert Black said the governor and his staff have not decided whether to veto the bill.
"It's not about autism. It's not about brain injuries. It's not about cervical cancer," said the TAB's Shelton Green. "We want to avoid placing mandates on employers, on their health-benefit policies."
Such requirements increase costs for employers who already struggle with annual insurance-premium increases, he said.
"We want to leave the discretion up to the employers and let them decide what health plans (to provide) and not the state," he said.
The number of Texas children with autism has nearly doubled in four years, reaching 17,282 in the 2005-06 school year, according to the Texas Education Agency. But experts contend the count is vastly understated.
Sen. Eddie Lucio, D-Brownsville, has been trying to pass the autism-insurance bill for six years.
"Not only will this legislation save the state billions of dollars in the next decade alone, but it will bring renewed hope to many of these children and their parents," Lucio said. "We can honestly say we are giving children an opportunity for a more independent life."

Vaccines causing Autism finally gets a day in court
Vaccine-Induced Autism Victims in the Thousands Will Finally Get Day in Court

WASHINGTON, June 4 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Hearings will begin on June 11th at the U.S. Federal Claims Court to determine if autism is linked to vaccines and their components, including the mercury-based preservative thimerosal. As the Autism Omnibus Proceeding approaches, parents of children diagnosed with autism are calling attention to the conflicts of interest they believe continue to threaten the safety of vaccines.
Among the concerns cited by parents are the close ties between pharmaceutical companies and government regulatory agencies. A July, 2003 UPI investigation revealed the following:
- In two cases in the past four years, vaccines endorsed by the
CDC were
pulled off the market after a number of infants and adults appear to
have suffered devastating side effects, and some died. Critics now worry
about a possible link between vaccines and autism, diabetes, asthma and
sudden infant death syndrome, among other ailments.
- Members of the CDC's Vaccine Advisory Committee get money from vaccine
manufacturers. Relationships have included: sharing a vaccine patent;
owning stock in a vaccine company; payments for research; getting money
to monitor manufacturer vaccine tests; and funding academic departments.
- The CDC is in the vaccine business. Under a 1980 law, the CDC currently
has 28 licensing agreements with companies and one university for
vaccines or vaccine-related products. It has eight ongoing projects to
collaborate on new vaccines.
Dr. Paul Offit, MD, former chairman of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, which guides vaccine policy decisions at the CDC, embodies the conflicts of interest concern of parents. Dr. Offit has been a long-time defender of injecting mercury, a known neurotoxin, into infants and pregnant women. He is also co-patent holder of the RotaTeq vaccine with pharmaceutical giant Merck, a funder of his research for over a decade. Offit is speaking against parents today in support of the vaccine program and pharmaceutical companies at a press conference sponsored by Every Child by Two, a group also funded by pharmaceutical companies and supportive of injecting mercury into infants.
"In my opinion, as glaring as Dr. Offit's conflicts are, what's even more disturbing is that such close ties between vaccine policy decision makers and vaccine manufacturers are routine," said parent and National Autism Association board member Scott Bono.
- Members of the CDC's Vaccine Advisory Committee get money from vaccine
manufacturers. Relationships have included: sharing a vaccine patent;
owning stock in a vaccine company; payments for research; getting money
to monitor manufacturer vaccine tests; and funding academic departments.
"The bottom line has become vaccine profit rather than vaccine safety. Children diagnosed with autism are suffering the consequences of an unprecedented greed, and their parents aren't going away until the public knows the full details of this man-made disaster."

For the last twenty years, the incidents of autism have been rising to astronomical heights. The reasons for this have been debated, argued, protested and denied. Parents of autistic children are confused, left with feelings of guilt, anger and frustration.
The Centers for Disease Control and the FDA say better diagnostics have been the cause for the rise in autism. Parents and other health officials ask, if better diagnostics are the reason, where are all the autistic adults?
Childhood vaccines have been at the heart of this issue since the late 1980s. When pharmaceutical companies began using the mercury-based vaccine preservative, thimerosal, autism suddenly began to shoot up the charts of childhood illnesses. Mercury is one of the deadliest toxins on the planet.
A child from 6 months to age 3 receiving a flu vaccine with thimerosal gets 12.5 micrograms (mcg) of mercury. Yet, according to the Environmental Protection Agency, only someone weighing 275 pounds can process this amount of mercury. Older children receive the adult vaccine with 25 mcg of mercury, an amount that someone weighing 550 pounds can process through the liver. The 25 mcg-flu vaccine is also recommended for pregnant women at all stages of pregnancy.
Mercury easily passes the placental barrier and enters the developing fetus whose tiny brain is just forming.
The CDC has been under fire for refusing to give out testing results on the effects of thimerosal in vaccines. Why? Because there has never been a toxicity test done by the CDC or the FDA.
How do parents of autistic kids fight back?
There is an official federal "vaccine court," where some 4,750 autism-related cases have been pending for years. Claimants say thimerosal contributed to their children's autism. They are seeking compensation from a special vaccine injury fund administered by the federal government.
The long-awaited autism vaccine trial will commence in June in the courtroom of Special Master George Hastings. The plaintiffs and their attorneys have asked for complete transparency in every aspect of the tribunal, including public disclosure of all evidence and unhindered media access to the hearings.
The Bush administration wants to hold the hearings in a sealed courtroom, off limits to the press and public, with stiff sanctions for any outsider who attempts to gain unauthorized access to the secretive proceedings within.
On Nov. 3, the Department of Justice wrote to Hastings saying it "would oppose public access to the courtroom and public broadcast of the trial," because such an arrangement "would pose security and privacy concerns" for those in attendance.
If vaccines are safe, then why all the controversy and secrecy? What if one of every 166 births resulted in blindness or deafness? Is autism any less important because it happens after birth?
Autism is not a result of better diagnostics. It is a medical disaster that needs to be acknowledged and corrected.

Ms McKee asks where all these adults with autism are today. Autism affects 1 in 160 (depending on the sources…it is really about 1 in 80 boys [in some states in 1 in 50 boys – Minnesota]). Many more suffer from ADD, ADHD and dyslexia (again, mostly boys). The CDC now says that 1 in 6 children have some from of neurobehavioral disorder. This isn’t due to better diagnosis (what an insult to teachers and pediatricians) – after all, can you point out the 1 in 160 adults walking around with autism? They are not there, but there are people with Alzheimer’s disease! This is the same subset of the population that now has autism but at the other end of the age spectrum. Had they been born in the 1990’s and jabbed full of the vaccines that contained the mercury preservative Thimerosal they would, in all likelihood, have autism. That is why the government is not trying to find the cause of the epidemic; they know what the cause is…they just don’t want us to know!
There have been many articles written about how the current generation of children in High School cannot do math and science. Girls are now outperforming boys in math and science, and we have to import engineers and scientists in large numbers from other countries to meet the demands of US industry. The girls aren’t performing any better than they used to, but the boys are more sensitive to heavy metal poisoning than girls are (Testosterone increase mercury toxicity) and their brains have been damaged.
Now, to put this in context, Polio only affected 1 in 2700 Americans. Some of us are old enough to remember the outcry about that disease and the mobilization to prevent it. No such mobilization is taking place on behalf of the children with Autism or the adults with Alzheimer’s disease because these diseases are caused by environmental exposure to government sanctioned pollutants. Some heavy metals have a protected status -a mixed agenda of greed, control and the fear of a lot of people who will lose their jobs or worse, but be that as it may, the agenda is not in the public’s interest.
The fossil fuel industry that wants to continue to spew mercury from cola-fire power plants have theri hands in this mess big time.
Treatment for the brain injury caused by heavy metal pollution, what will go down as the scourge of the late 20th and early 21st century, is currently available. This pollution is responsible for the increase rates of asthma, diabetes and a whole host of what are considered unexplainable autoimmune diseases and cancers – so this just isn’t about children with autism – they are the canaries in the coal mine, and we have done nothing as they fall over one after the other. But think on this….. Who is going to foot the bill when one 1 in every 80 boys goes on disability just for autism alone. Where is that money going to come from just as the first waves are now becoming adults?

Barbara McKee correctly points out the tragedy of autism and the suspicious government reactions. A US Congressional committee concluded in 2003 that mercury in vaccines was the likely cause of the autism epidemic. This did not get the press coverage like the Institute of Medicine's report in 2004 when, at the request of the CDC, issued a statement exonerating vaccines from a causal link to autism. Few knew that several of the IOM's elite executive council had ties to the vaccine industry, none closer than Gail Cassel, the VP of Eli Lilly, the drug company liable for $ billions in damage to Americans.
Finally, an added point of hypocrisy. Many are concerned about mercury in the air largely from coal-fired power plants. Let me put this in proper perspective. The air in Illinois amounts to an exposure rate of 0.0035 micrograms of mercury per day and mostly a milder form - elemental mercury. Flu shots today have over 700 times that. Where is the legislation to stop this kind of pollution?

Here's a good article on how the "predator class" uses it's power to abuse the "prey class". Until we can remove the protection racket of the predator class, we will see more examples of this type of behavior. Case in point: a cow recently tested positive for mad cow disease in Alabama. The government's response was to reduce testing of mad cow disease by 90%. This is just one example of how corporations use the government to protect their industry's interests. The pharmaceutical industry is being protected in this manner as well.
Flu Vaccine Facts
• In drinking water, mercury cannot exceed 2 parts per billion. With more than 200 parts per billion of mercury, liquid is considered hazardous waste. A mercury-containing flu shot vial has 50,000 parts per billion of mercury. How can something with 250x the mercury level of hazardous waste be deemed safe?

Autism is not related to mercury in vaccines. Read the science - it is readily available to those who wish to learn.

The answer to Shadowee's question (and Dr Ayoub's 'perspective') is dosage and exposure. You will consume thousands of gallons of water and millions of liters of air in a lifetime, but only a few milliliters of vaccine.
Each year, 36,000 people in the USA die from flu and more than 20,000 children under 5 end up in the hospital.
There is a thimerisol-free flu vaccine for children.

To Owinurname and any others who claim science shows no link between thimerosal and autism, I say SHOW ME and be willing to sign your own name. Show me the rigorous testing done on thimerosal by any government agency to prove it is safe for humans. This cannot be done because the independant clinical testing was never conducted.
If you actually do read ALL the science available you will be hard pressed to make any claim of safety of any amount of mercury in vaccines. So go ahead - bring it on - show me the hard science you have that proves this poison is safe.

Owinurname - I think that we can agree that we need good hard science to prove or disprove vaccine's role in the autism epidemic. If its so clear that vaccines are NOT a factor - why is the Big Pharma funded Bush administration so hell bent on keeping these proceeding sealed? Please, prove to me its not the vaccines so we can get busy looking for the cause. This is not going to happen until there is transparency in this crisis.

Mercury is a poison. The effect of all poisons depends on dose.
Thimerosal contains mercury, but in such tiny amounts as to not achieve effective dose.
Thimerosal has been removed from infant vaccines in the USA.
There are no easy choices when protecting the health of entire populations.
If you post an e-mail address, I will send you a list of 109 studies drawn from PubMed (below is the abstract from one of the most recent and rigorous - a study of almost half a million children - and a URL for another).
Journal of the American Medical Association. 2003 Oct 1;290(13):1763-6. Association between thimerosal-containing vaccine and autism. Hviid et al.,
CONTEXT: Mercuric compounds are nephrotoxic and neurotoxic at high doses. Thimerosal, a preservative used widely in vaccine formulations, contains ethylmercury. Thus it has been suggested that childhood vaccination with thimerosal-containing vaccine could be causally related to neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism. OBJECTIVE: To determine whether vaccination with a thimerosal-containing vaccine is associated with development of autism. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: Population-based cohort study of all children born in Denmark from January 1, 1990, until December 31, 1996 (N = 467 450) comparing children vaccinated with a thimerosal-containing vaccine with children vaccinated with a thimerosal-free formulation of the same vaccine. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Rate ratio (RR) for autism and other autistic-spectrum disorders, including trend with dose of ethylmercury. RESULTS: During 2 986 654 person-years, we identified 440 autism cases and 787 cases of other autistic-spectrum disorders. The risk of autism and other autistic-spectrum disorders did not differ significantly between children vaccinated with thimerosal-containing vaccine and children vaccinated with thimerosal-free vaccine (RR, 0.85 [95% confidence interval [CI], 0.60-1.20] for autism; RR, 1.12 [95% CI, 0.88-1.43] for other autistic-spectrum disorders). Furthermore, we found no evidence of a dose-response association (increase in RR per 25 microg of ethylmercury, 0.98 [95% CI, 0.90-1.06] for autism and 1.03 [95% CI, 0.98-1.09] for other autistic-spectrum disorders). CONCLUSION: The results do not support a causal relationship between childhood vaccination with thimerosal-containing vaccines and development of autistic-spectrum disorders.

While I am sure that the study below is not the last word on the controversy involving thimerosol and neuro-developmental disorders, it does represent an advance over the study quoted above: not only it is more recent, the study methodology is essential prospective (as opposed to retrospective) and while biases can be introduced into either method, it is far less likely to occur with prospective studies.
I have included a link to the full text (which free download from the National Library of Medicine's PubMed data base) for those who which to do an indepth review based on something more than the abstract.

An assessment of downward trends in neurodevelopmental disorders in the United States following removal of Thimerosal from childhood vaccines.
Geier DA, Geier MR. Department of Biochemistry, George Washington University, Washington, DC, USA.
BACKGROUND: The US is in the midst of an epidemic of neurodevelopmental disorders (NDs). Thimerosal is an ethylmercury-containing compound added to some childhood vaccines. Several previous epidemiological studies conducted in the US have associated Thimerosal-containing vaccine (TCV) administration with NDs. MATERIAL/METHODS: An ecological study was undertaken to evaluate NDs reported to the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) from 1991 through 2004 by date of receipt and by date of vaccine administration. The NDs examined included autism, mental retardation, and speech disorders. Statistical trend analysis was employed to evaluate the effects of removal of Thimerosal on the proportion of NDs reported to VAERS. RESULTS: There was a peak in the proportion of ND reports received by VAERS in 2001-2002 and in the proportion of ND reports by date of vaccine administration in 1998. There were significant reductions in the proportion of NDs reported to VAERS as Thimerosal was begun to be removed from childhood vaccines in the US from mid-1999 onwards. CONCLUSIONS: The present study provides the first epidemiological evidence showing that as Thimerosal was removed from childhood vaccines, the number of NDs has decreased in the US. The analysis techniques utilized attempted to minimize chance or bias/confounding. Additional research should be conducted to further evaluate the relationship between TCVs and NDs. This is especially true because the handling of vaccine safety data from the National Immunization Program of the CDC has been called into question by the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences in 2005.

Here's a statement from Alex Jones (infowars.com) on the vaccines. Exposing the NWO, (New World Order) who run the governments. It was they who decided to have mercury in vaccines, they wanted this for their own nefarious reasons:
"We are here simply trying to defend liberty. You have threatened us. You have threatened our countries, you have threatened our sovereignty. You have threatened our lively hoods. Your world government in your own statements, in your own policy reports are detrimental to the average man woman and child. You have more power and more money than you could ever spend. You own the central banks that print the money. Why, then, do you continue to dehumanize us? Why do you put mercury in the vaccines? Stani(?)sodium chloride in the water? Why? Why do you put cancer viruses in the vaccines? Why have you used depleted uranium now in four seperate nations, the equivalent of 44,000 a-bombs of uranium now in the atmosphere.
Why are you doing this? Why are you so dark? Why are you so destructive? Why are you destroying your own future?"
This was an angery demonstration to those secretly controling our lives and gradually taking away our rights and freedoms. WAKE UP WORLD! THIS IS NOT CONSPIRACY WHEN ITS TRUTH!!! I urge those uneducated in this truth to search it out. Infowars.com is the perfect place to start learning, just have an open mind!

Owinurame, you must have misunderstood me. I was not asking for a CDC funded epidemiological study on vaccinated children, I was asking for actual clinical studies done on a test subject (animal, tissue sample, or infant child for instance) exposed to the amount of mercury in one vaccine, (much less the rigorous schedule our kids had in the nineties) and can definitively show that there were NO harmful effects. Heck, I would even like to see a test on the "trace" amounts of mercury STILL in some infant vaccines (just to debunk another one of your lies) that show 1 microgram is safe if there was one - there is not.
If you are not able to come up with any, I suggest you stop lying to people that it is safe. I also suggest you give your real name, or someone might think you are part of one of the groups being funded by the CDC and the Immunization Action Coalition (and by extension, the drug companies) to go after any writer who dares to tell the truth about thimerosal. I would love to see what other studies you are counting on for proof, but why would I post my e-mail address for you when you are afraid to even give your own name?

I can understand your anger but not your obtuseness.
Re: the abstract of the study I posted - So the CDC has been conspiring in Denmark for the last 30+ years? Don't you think that is a bit of a stretch?
Which infant vaccine currently has thimerosal?
Why in God's name would the American Academy of Pediatrics want to harm children?
Are you interested in science finding other possible causes of autism and developing true preventive interventions or do you just want to stay mad and toss blame about irresponsibly?

Truly, that mercury in vaccines causes autism there is NO doubt, and that plus other sources of mercury, esp dental fillings, causes MS and a multitude of other disorders, including almost all "mental" disorders - the gov and med industry know these things. well, if the study between children who did get vaccines and those that did not were to be bonafide, the mother must be added to the equation. If those children who did or did not get mercury vaccines had mother's who DID get a flu shot containing mercury, then the study is flawed and therefore discounted. Also, the testing of the mother's mercury levels whether or not she received any kind of shot containing mercury(because of mercury contamined food or living in a highly polluted area) must be mandatory criteria for the study of the children to be a true control group.
chew on that for awhile....

After much public controversy surrounding
the mercury content of childhood vaccinations,
Health Advocacy in the Public Interest (HAPI)
raised $500 to have four vaccines tested for
heavy metal content. The vials were sent to
Doctor’s Data, an independent lab which
specializes in heavy metal testing in the USA.
Many manufacturers voluntarily began
producing supposed ‘mercury-free’ vaccines
in 1999. Some product inserts currently claim
that a ‘trace’ amount of mercury still exists in
the final product but that the amount has been
greatly reduced. Others claim to be producing
completely mercury-free products.
During an investigation into the mercury
issue, HAPI learned that Thimerosal, a 50%
mercury compound, is still being used to
produce most vaccines and that the
manufacturers are simply ‘filtering it out’ of
the final product. However, according to Boyd
Haley, PhD, Chemistry Department Chair,
University of Kentucky, mercury binds to the
antigenic protein in the vaccine and cannot be
completely filtered out.
All four vaccine vials tested contained
mercury despite manufacturer claims that two
of the vials were completely mercury-free.
All four vials also contained aluminum, one
nine times more than the other three, which
tremendously enhances the toxicity of mercury,
causing neuronal death in the brain.
The mercury content of routine childhood
vaccinations has been linked to the current
autism epidemic as well as numerous other
neurological disorders affecting children
today. Currently, one in six children are
affected in some way and one in 250 children
are diagnosed as autistic compared to one in
10,000 prior to mercury-containing vaccines.
It is the position of Dr. Haley as well as
HAPI that if mercury can be detected in any
vaccine using standard instrumentation, the
content should be disclosed in the product
insert and manufacturers should not be allowed
to call the product “mercury-free”.
Executive Director of HAPI, Dawn Winkler,
met with FDA officials in Silver Spring,
Maryland on July 27, 2004 to discuss blatant
mislabelling and misrepresentation of
ingredients in vaccinations which are licensed
by the FDA. Clearly, more testing is needed.
The FDA has the ability and authority to take
Press Release, August 12, 2004, from Health Advocacy in the Public Interest (HAPI)
Vaccines are not Mercury-Free
on the necessary testing; however, at present,
this task sadly appears to be up to the public.
HAPI will be attempting to raise more funds
to test more vaccines in an effort to pressure
the FDA to crack down on manufacturers to
label their products correctly.

Respectfully submitted.

Tim

For my personal info and family history of merc poisoning symptoms, visit my site, http://www.mercuryxxpoisoned.com
thanks.

well, if the study between children who did get vaccines and those that did not were to be bonafide, the mother must be added to the equation. If those children who did or did not get mercury vaccines had mother's who DID get a flu shot containing mercury, then the study is flawed and therefore discounted. Also, the testing of the mother's mercury levels whether or not she received any kind of shot containing mercury(because of mercury contamined food or living in a highly polluted area) must be mandatory criteria for the study of the children to be a true control group.
chew on that for awhile....

After much public controversy surrounding
the mercury content of childhood vaccinations,
Health Advocacy in the Public Interest (HAPI)
raised $500 to have four vaccines tested for
heavy metal content. The vials were sent to
Doctor’s Data, an independent lab which
specializes in heavy metal testing in the USA.
Many manufacturers voluntarily began
producing supposed ‘mercury-free’ vaccines
in 1999. Some product inserts currently claim
that a ‘trace’ amount of mercury still exists in
the final product but that the amount has been
greatly reduced. Others claim to be producing
completely mercury-free products.
During an investigation into the mercury
issue, HAPI learned that Thimerosal, a 50%
mercury compound, is still being used to
produce most vaccines and that the
manufacturers are simply ‘filtering it out’ of
the final product. However, according to Boyd
Haley, PhD, Chemistry Department Chair,
University of Kentucky, mercury binds to the
antigenic protein in the vaccine and cannot be
completely filtered out.
All four vaccine vials tested contained
mercury despite manufacturer claims that two
of the vials were completely mercury-free.
All four vials also contained aluminum, one
nine times more than the other three, which
tremendously enhances the toxicity of mercury,
causing neuronal death in the brain.
The mercury content of routine childhood
vaccinations has been linked to the current
autism epidemic as well as numerous other
neurological disorders affecting children
today. Currently, one in six children are
affected in some way and one in 250 children
are diagnosed as autistic compared to one in
10,000 prior to mercury-containing vaccines.
It is the position of Dr. Haley as well as
HAPI that if mercury can be detected in any
vaccine using standard instrumentation, the
content should be disclosed in the product
insert and manufacturers should not be allowed
to call the product “mercury-free”.
Executive Director of HAPI, Dawn Winkler,
met with FDA officials in Silver Spring,
Maryland on July 27, 2004 to discuss blatant
mislabelling and misrepresentation of
ingredients in vaccinations which are licensed
by the FDA. Clearly, more testing is needed.
The FDA has the ability and authority to take
Press Release, August 12, 2004, from Health Advocacy in the Public Interest (HAPI)
Vaccines are not Mercury-Free
on the necessary testing; however, at present,
this task sadly appears to be up to the public.
HAPI will be attempting to raise more funds
to test more vaccines in an effort to pressure
the FDA to crack down on manufacturers to
label their products correctly.

Feingold in Wisconsin
This is a video of a woman it looks like she was trying to be spokesmodel or something. Why she is doing this at the beach, I don't know. She should have done it in Wisconsin. Clearly, she wasn't there in this video. However, it does show the impact of how a school adapting to Feingold can improve.
